About Alexa

Welcome

Hi there, I’m Alexa!

I am an LPN and have been practising in medicine/palliative for the last 9 years. Since the pandemic, I have been passionate about taking my family’s health into my own hands and becoming healthy in the most natural ways possible.

I have always loved helping others and so it is fitting that I became a nurse- but in the recent years I’ve realized I’m not able to fulfill my purpose in the space I am in. People in western medicine don’t seem to be that interested in holistic health and I often find myself questioning why the laundry list of side effects from pharmaceuticals is normalized.

I desire to close the huge gap in health by bringing awareness to mental wellness and educating around the mental, emotional, spiritual, social aspects of health.

In my own healing journey I have discovered the power of natural supplementation, which has led me to dive into research on the microbiome and how our health is not just tied to the health of our gut, but how it communicates with the brain. This is what drove me to change careers and join The Holistic RN & Co.

A little about me…

I grew up in the small town of Millet, with my parents and two sisters. I now live on an acreage near Camrose with my husband and our two children. We have many farm animals including my most favourite; horses! My favorite hobby is definitely horseback riding but I love anything that has to do with being outside in nature.

After leaving my childhood home, I worked at a horse barn, caring for & cleaning up after horses. Being bullied throughout middle school, I learned to love animals more than people. Honestly, I sometimes feel like I should have become a vet, but I chose nursing because I wanted to gain more knowledge of the human body to be a better mom to my future children. Now, I am so glad I picked nursing!

I am a very kind, compassionate and approachable human. You won’t ever catch me throwing judgements because I truly believe we are all doing our best and we all deserve love.

about me

  • I love to sing for fun, but I’m too shy to do it in public (unless I’m singing Frozen songs with my daughter at karaoke night).

  • I am the middle child with 2 sisters. If I were born a boy, my parents were going to name me Harley (because my dad’s name is David… get it? I’m Harley-Davidson).

  • I’ve loved horses since I was a little girl. I would beg strangers to let me sit on their horses backs and I would sneak into pastures with horses and try to hang out with them and feed them grass. I got my first horse when I was 19 and instantly fell in love. Now I have 5 of them! I’ve taught them tricks like how to kiss me & shake a hoof; I’ve competed in Jumping & Polocrosse, as well as participated in parades and have taken them to the mountains. My oldest horse is now 21 years old and my youngest is still in utero.

  • I was not educated on gut health until 2022 when I found the Mental Wellness company. Since then, I have put myself on a natural protocol that has helped me overcome an addiction, chronic pain/migraines as well as sugar cravings and has allowed me to crowd out any foods/habits that weren’t serving my best self.
  • My first ever trip on a plane was in 2010 when my boyfriend (now husband) took me to Mexico. It was an unreal experience because I had never left the province of Alberta previously.

  • My husband and I bought our first acreage by Camrose in 2014 and have been here ever since. We have a 7 year old daughter and a 5 year old son. Currently we have 15 sheep, 1 pet goat, 2 cows, 20 meat chickens, 14 laying hens, 5 horses, 4 dogs, and 5 cats! We like to call ourselves the “Mac Funny Farm”.

  • I don’t have a huge green thumb, but every year I try to plant a big garden with a variety of veggies such as onions, carrots, lettuce, beans, peas, zucchini, squash, cucumber & pumpkins.

  • I enjoy many outdoor activities such as kayaking, swimming, roller-skating, hiking, quadding (mostly being the passenger) & camping. I love fishing, especially on the ocean, but I’m not a huge fan of eating them.
  • I drove myself to Great Falls, Montana and hopped on a plane all by myself in September 2022 for a convention- and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done alone!

At this time I am studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become a certified Health Coach. I strongly believe that there is more to health than just treating symptoms, the future of health care should be more focused on prevention and figuring out the root cause of our struggles. As I learn more in the program, I realize that holistic health has so much more to offer than western medicine. We are diverse beings and we should be treated as such.

There is a time and place for western medicine, but the era of it being the only solution is over.

Mental wellness is the foundation of everything and to me, holistic health means allowing our bodies to do what they were made to do naturally by listening to what they are telling us, nourishing them with whole foods, approaching with curiosity and understanding the signals.

I am beyond grateful to be pursuing a career with Brianne and to learn from her. I look forward to being able to educate individuals on how they can help themselves feel their best not just physically, but mentally as well.

Being on my own health and wellness journey myself, I am excited to also learn from others and help create meaningful and sustainable changes in their lives as I gain more knowledge and experience in holistic medicine.
