When I went primarily plant-based, one of the things I struggled with most was wrapping my head around how I would recreate my favourite meals without the animal-based protein option.
I often ate things like fajitas, sandwiches, stir-fry’s, etc., and this was a big concern for me!
I’d tried tofu a couple times before this, and to be honest, I wasn’t impressed. The texture was something that really turned me off and I struggled with it being an adequate replacement.
Being as open as I am to new foods however, I decided to give it another shot. Only this time I was going to ‘research’ my heart out to discover how I could make it taste better (if I could make it taste better).
Almost immediately, I realized the problem I was having was that I was previously using tofu that was too soft, which was resulting in a ‘crumbling’ texture that too-closely resembled scrambled eggs (something I also do not enjoy).
Upon this discovery, a whole new world of possibilities opened up for me and I began to really enjoy and look forward to incorporating tofu into my meals!
This recipe is one of the creations that came from that- and the best part about it is that it is so versatile. You can use these crispy tofu strips in anyway you’d like to replace the traditional animal protein in any meal and make it a yummy plant-based option instead.
Simply change up the spices you use to make something totally different.
