It’s about time I shared with you one of my favourite smoothie recipes.

But not just ANY smoothie.

A kick-ass hormone-balancing smoothie.

One that increases metabolism.

Tastes fabulous.

AND… significantly decreases PMS symptoms.  Say WHAT?!?

Yep, you heard me babes! This almond, Maca and cinnamon smoothie is what dreams are made of. Recently, I started incorporating it during my time of the month as I have been getting wicked cramps since I stopped birth control earlier this year (more on that later in my next blog post).  I honestly thought I was dying the last go-round. But, two of these smoothies later and my cramps subsided (almost completely) and I felt fan-freaking-tastic!

I recommend giving it a go either now, when the next period (or menopause) symptoms strike. xo

Now, here’s a lil’ info for you:

Maca is a plant that grows in central Peru in the high plateaus of the Andes Mountains. It has been cultivated as a vegetable crop in this area for at least 3000 years. Maca is a relative of the radish and has an odor similar to butterscotch (which may appear bitter or strong to some- but that’s why we mix it with other flavours to positively compliment the taste). Its root is used to make medicine in many cultures as well!

The benefits of Maca are:
-It’s highly nutritious
-It increases libido in men and women
-Improves your mood
-Helps with fertility
-Decreases symptoms of menopause and PMS
-Boosts sport performance and energy
-When applied to skin helps protect from sun damage
-Improves learning and memory
-Increases productivity and focus

You can find the powder at any health food store and some grocery stores too! I choose to use organic traditions brand as I thoroughly enjoy it

Anywhoooo, here ya go…

  • 2 tbsp almond butter (or peanut butter)
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 – 2 tsp maca powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • (Optional) 1 tbsp raw protein powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups dairy-free milk
  • Approx 10 ice cubes
  • 2 medjool dates, pitted

STEP 1: Combine in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

PRO TIP: Add 1 tbsp natural cocoa powder for a chocolate treat that satisfies those cravings even more!
